Although the Fender P-Bass from 1951 through 1960 had made dramatic inroads in every genre of music, and bass guitar playing had evolved passed basic backup, it took the bass guitar’s first virtuoso, James Jamerson, to set the Fender Bass brand as the symbol of all things low range.

Improvements to the underlying design and engineering had made the ‘62 Fender P-Bass lighter, stronger, and broadened its tonal range.  It encapsulates the essential spirit from which all Fenders evolved from.
