1975 Fender Jazz Bass

The 1975 Jazz bass stands out as an evolutionary move by Fender.  A CBS period bass, Fender had been making slight improvements to the jazz bass model, some of which were to become standard, and some rolled back.  The ‘75 J-Bass can be seen as a culmination of those efforts.

The first thing that made an impact with was the addition of the pearloid blocks and binding on rosewood necks, and black blocks on maple.  Also, the neck was switched to a 3 bolt “micro-tilt adjustable” giving a bit more control on the neck positioning.  The pearloid and black block inlays where something new to the jazz bass, and made a distinct styling change.

This bass is characterized by its tight response and punch.  Being very versatile, both jazz and rock musicians used this bass to its fullest.  Using just the bridge pickup and adjustments to tone achieves a  bright and crisp sound , while more emphasis on the neck added “growl.”

The bass was just a solid movement forward for the jazz bass line.  Typically excellent craftsmanship and engineering added to the popularity of this bass.   Fender has reissued this bass and the Vintage ‘75 Fender Jazz Bass.  It features:

  • Ash Body
  • Maple C-Shape Neck
